Reintegration of Youth through Life Skills and Peace Education Activities
“Reintegration of Youth through Life Skills and Peace Education Activities” in Garmawa Camp-Duhok Governorate seek to build the capacity of young people in peace education and provide life skills and psychosocial activities.
The project created groups of females and males which are involved in a series of activities as the project is ongoing now. Total number of groups are 4; 2 for males and 2 for females. Each group contain 12 members, the total of group members is 48.
The project started from 15th November and will continue to 15th April . There were different stages at which the project could achieve its outputs, outcomes and objective.
The stages were planned as following:
In the first stage, 48 females and males were trained on peace education. The participants were divided to two shifts each shift 24 participants. Each shift took 10 days intensive training.
Second stage of the project, the trained females and males were divided into small groups. Each group had 12 members; two groups for males and two groups for females. Each two groups had a facilitator in which she supported the group and managed activities. The groups were engaged on weekly life skill and psychosocial activities. The life skills included important subjects like; self-awareness, self-confidence, communication skills, leadership, decision making, and problem solving. While psychosocial support activities included; art therapy, relaxation, and other different activities that made the participants express their feelings and ideas through various techniques. Final gathering activities were held for each two groups, one gathering for males and one for females. During the gathering activities more opportunities were provided for the participants to discuss how they could practices what they had learned to start community based initiatives to develop their community.
The activities this project proposes will capacitate and empower youth to become active members of their communities, in addition to improving their wellbeing and increasing their resilience in coping with life challenges and changes.
