As part of ongoing efforts to enhance community preparedness in crisis-affected contexts, the Joint Crisis Coordination Center (JCC) in Erbil, with the support of Expertise France and in coordination with the Directorate of Migration and Crisis Response (DMCR), organized a hands-on workshop on first aid kits and their proper use.
The session brought together 26 women beneficiaries from the project “Increasing Young Women’s Participation and Leadership in Humanitarian and Crisis Planning and Response in Duhok Governorate,” implemented in partnership with UN Women. The project aims to strengthen the meaningful participation and leadership of young women in humanitarian action and crisis response across Duhok Governorate.
Through practical exercises and real-life emergency scenarios, participants developed essential skills in identifying, organizing, and effectively using first aid kits. The training also focused on improving their ability to respond quickly and appropriately during emergencies, particularly in contexts where timely action can significantly reduce risks and save lives.
Beyond technical skills, the initiative emphasized confidence-building and leadership development, reinforcing the role of young women as active contributors in crisis preparedness and response. Participants were encouraged to apply their learning within their families and communities, helping to spread awareness and strengthen local resilience.
This initiative highlights the importance of women’s participation in crisis response mechanisms and underscores their critical role as first responders and community leaders. By equipping young women with both knowledge and practical skills, the project contributes to building more inclusive, responsive, and resilient communities in Duhok Governorate.
Strengthening women’s leadership today means building safer and stronger communities for tomorrow.
