Background:
Better World Organization for Community Development is a humanitarian and non-governmental organization established on 24th May 2017 in Kurdistan/Iraq. Independent and non-profit that works to advocate for peace and coexistence in the community and improve the social, psychosocial, and economic situation of people. The organization focuses on women through projects that ensure protection and empowerment for them.
Under the direct supervision of the (Operations Manager), the (Security Officer) will perform the following duties and responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement security protocols and procedures for the main office and all centers and safe spaces in Duhok, Ninawa, and other locations.
• Conduct regular risk assessments for potential security threats to safe spaces, staff, and operations across all locations, and report findings.
• Monitor access control at all facilities, including issuing staff IDs and access cards.
• Inspect all locations to identify potential risks and threats, including vulnerabilities or breaches.
• Maintain and oversee the operation of security equipment (CCTV, alarms, etc.) across all centers.
• Responsible of risk collection and registeration and follow ups with the plan of mitigation.
• Develop and update emergency response plans tailored to the specific needs and risks of each location.
• Conduct fire drills and evacuation exercises at all centers and safe spaces.
• Respond to security incidents and investigate breaches or thefts at any organizational location.
• Coordinate with security enforcement or emergency services in Duhok, Ninawa, and other regions when necessary.
• Train staff at all locations on basic security awareness and protocols.
• Maintain a centralized log of incidents, security checks, and maintenance activities for all facilities.
• Ensure compliance with organizational and local security regulations in each operational area.
• Support procurement processes by vetting vendors and contractors for security risks, especially at locations deemed not safe, across all areas.
• Prepare security reports for the operations manager, including insights from all centers and safe spaces.
• Review the security policy annually, ensuring it reflects the specific needs and risks of all operational locations, and recommend necessary updates.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• A bachelor’s degree a related field.
• At least 1-3 years of experience in security or risk management, preferably in humanitarian or NGO settings.
• Strong knowledge of security protocols, emergency response planning, and risk assessment methodologies.
• Familiarity with local security contexts in Duhok, Ninawa, and other operational areas.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with security enforcement and emergency services.
• Ability to train staff in security awareness and implement security protocols across diverse locations.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills to prepare security assessments and updates for management.
• Proficiency in English and Arabic are required
