Background:
Better World Organization for Community Development is a humanitarian and non-governmental organization established on 24th May 2017 in Kurdistan/Iraq. Independent and non-profit that works to advocate for peace and coexistence in the community and improve the social, psychosocial, and economic situation of people. The organization focuses on women through projects that ensure protection and empowerment for them.
Under the direct supervision of the (Project Manager), the (Psychologist) will perform the following duties and responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work within the Better World Organization Code of Conduct, HR Policy, and full compliance with Safeguarding, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Anti-Fraud and any other relevant policies of the organization. Policy documents will be provided on the Orientation Day.
2. Provide individual and group psychological counseling to beneficiaries, particularly those facing trauma and distress.
3. Conduct psychological assessments to evaluate the needs and progress of clients receiving support.
4. Assist staff in facilitating psychosocial support (PSS) activities to promote mental well-being in the community.
5. Develop personalized therapeutic plans for cases and provide interventions to ensure positive mental health outcomes.
6. Maintain confidentiality in all counseling sessions and ensure adherence to ethical standards of mental health practice.
7. Offer crisis intervention when immediate psychological support is needed, especially in high-risk situations.
8. Collaborate with staff to enhance their understanding of mental health issues and provide training on how to address the psychological needs of beneficiaries.
9. Keep accurate and up-to-date records of counseling sessions, including case notes and progress reports.
10. Identify cases that require additional professional intervention and make appropriate referrals to specialized services.
11. Monitor the mental health of cases regularly and provide reports to the project manager, ensuring activities meet the program’s goals.
12. As needed, support volunteers and social workers in conducting family visits to provide additional assessments and support.
13. Perform other tasks requested by Supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Mental Health, or a related field with at least 2 years of experience providing psychological counseling or psychosocial support services.
• Fluency in Arabic (mandatory) for effective client communication and basic proficiency in English (preferred) for reporting purposes.
• Strong understanding of psychological principles, trauma-informed care, and best practices in mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS).
• Proven ability to conduct psychological assessments, provide counseling, and develop tailored intervention plans for individuals and groups.
• Experience in facilitating psychosocial support (PSS) activities and providing guidance to staff on mental health-related issues.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build trust and rapport with clients and engage effectively with diverse groups.
• Strong ethical commitment to confidentiality and adherence to professional standards in psychological practice.
• Familiarity with referral systems and the ability to identify and connect clients to specialized services when needed.
• Proficiency in using Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel) to document client progress and prepare reports.
• Commitment to teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and community members to achieve program objectives.
